Of all the Colehaus Cats, Miss Newton has been the friendliest toward new kitties. She took Pia and Tessa under her wing last summer (until Tessa turned into a wild teenage Danger Cat with Super Power Pee abilities) and helped welcome Quint and Olivia into the fold. She’s even helped comfort Ruby from time-to-time using just her quiet presence.
So, naturally, Miss Newton was our choice to visit the kitten room first when teaching the Niblet girls about other kitties.* Viola, the Brave, was up for the challenge.
Miss Newton: What the… ??
Miss Newton: That’s not a real cat. That’s too small to be a real cat.
Viola, the Brave: Whoa! That’s too big to be a real cat!
Winter, the Sleepy: Huh? What? What cat?
Illy, the Skeptic: Why are all the cats the same color as Mama? I call shenanigans!
The toys: …
Miss Newton: Nope! No sir, I don’t like ’em!
And so, we witnessed the first hiss ever seen from Miss Newton. Clearly, more work is needed, but slowly… slowly…
*For safety reasons, mama Erinn Zuzu was placed temporarily in Ruby and Maxx’s room during Miss Newton’s meet & greet with the Niblets. Because Erinn Zuzu continues to be very, very protective of her Niblets, we’ll continue to practice this separation during visitations until she is spayed in January.
We hope Miss Newton improves her meet and greet skills! 🙂
But we know efurryone will come around in no time at all 🙂
the critters in the cottage xo
Holy Wow Miss Newton! We didn’t know you had it in you! It’s great that you have such a kitty savy Mom and Dad who know how “delicate” these matters can be and work so hard to help all you kitties get along on your own terms. It’s ok if things don’t feel right the first time. Purrs!
It looks as though there is a lot of shouting going on and we wondered if you had been lucky enough to get an aria or two too. I don’t know if I was able to tell you Quint’s picture and easel arrived last week – I love it. My internet was down for a week and I feel as though I’m swimming in a deep pool and going nowhere now I’ve got it back but hopefully should catch up over the holidays.
Have a wonderful Christmas.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx + Mum Sue
Miss Newton we’re seeing a lot of that around here with the introduction of our Miss Annabelle!
That hissing seems to be an unexpected response. Wonder what makes these kittens different from past ones? Purrhaps Miss Newton is saying enough is enough. We have nominated you all for an award. Please drop by our blog to pick it up. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth & Calista Jo
MOWZERS! Mega kitty excitement over there. We had to laff at Viola’s reaction. (And Allie would totally hiss just like Miss Newton, we think!)

Loving Miss newton’s lip freckles…better luck with the next visit!
Hehehe oh how I loved this!
We had the odd hiss slip out when Einstein first came. He stayed close to Dad and was in a little crate once he was well enough that Dad did not have to take him into the work office. (he works at home)
Now HE is the one that growls but only when eating. (He was feral and his brothers would not let him eat. He was so small and undernourished.)
Things will work out in time.
