Because it was so cold here last week, with well-below freezing night temperatures and frigid east winds straight off Mt. Hood and down the Columbia River Gorge, we made the decision to bring Mac indoors. If you remember Pretty Boy Mac, he’s that feral/semi-feral/stray boy we’ve been watching since last spring and eventually made friends with in October. Mom canvassed the neighborhood three separate times over those months, looking for his real home, and heard over and over again, “Nope. Don’t know him. Never seen him,” along with one, “Get off my property.”
She was then told he was living in a big pile of leaves blown up on the doorstep of a family who were afraid of cats, and that was all it took.
This meant a whole new set of complications could be at hand – Was Mac sick? Didn’t show signs. Was he a carrier of anything? Could be, we’d keep him separated. Fleas? Most certainly (answer was yes). Would he continue to ignore our curious cats? Answer: Most definitely. Would he freak out staying in our big dog kennel cage? Answer: Nope.
And perhaps most important – How long could he stay indoors? Well….
We have an incredible friend who loves big-cheek boys like Mac, and although she prefers senior big-cheek boys, Mac seemed to have within him the personality of the best of a bonded pair she’d recently lost. Last Wednesday, she came to meet Mac who proved his other nickname wasn’t just a fluke – Lap Nappin’ Mac. He couldn’t get enough of sitting on her lap, all fourteen point two pounds of him, happy as can be for the longest time, listening to us talk about him and his life going forward.
We also have incredible Friends of Colehaus who have been donating funds all along to make sure Mac had daily food and medical help when he was ready for his big snip-per-roo and life beyond as an indoor boy.
Friday, Mac found his home and is currently loving up his new mom and showing her and the world on facebook how much he thinks life as an indoor-only cat IS definitely everything and a big bag of nip. His first vet appointment is this week. Please join us in wishing him the best and a good vet visit.
Thank you, Carrie, for asking about him, for visiting him, and for adopting him and loving him. Thank you, Friends of Colehaus, for helping this once-frightened stray discover not all humans are scary. Thank you for helping Pretty Boy Mac find his Christmas miracle.
And, because he just happened to be indoors with the rest of us on photo day, we couldn’t help but to make this happen*.
*He didn’t seem to hold it against us but just in case, Mom promised she’d never put another hat on him ever again. His new mom, however, is another story.

Love Pretty Boy Mac in his Monkey Hat. Merry Christmas Mac! I’m sure you’ll have the best one ever in your new forever home. <3
This is a wonderful story. And what a good boy to pose in that hat too!
We luff this story. Wooo for one more stray finding a great home! Plus, he’s totally adorable in that hat.
I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face. This is the most wonderful miracle, such a wonderful story for ALL year, but especially so at this time of year. What a handsome (and SMART) cat Mac is…..my husband and I like to say when Cody is showing us all that lovin’ and working hard to do so, that he is “pulling out all the stops” Mac is a smart boy to pull out all of the stops and show what a lover he is, so that he could have his furever home. God Bless you, Carrie and all who helped. I am certain this boy is going to have a wonderful life moving forward. xoxo He is such an adorable cat, I could not be happier for him!
Pretty Boy Mac is a beauty and he will return the love given him!
What a wonderful Christmas story with the purrfect happy ending. Mac is totally handsome, and he even looks adorable in the sock monkey hat. We wish him a wonderful life. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer
I’m so happy for Mac, and this is such great news! I don’t know where he came from, but he was clearly Not Really Feral. What a love bug, and Carrie is so lucky to adopt him.
We just love happy endings!
What a wonderful story ! We’re so happy for Mac, and it’s incredible how easily he settled down. We agree with Summer, he was probably not a true feral. Purrs
I feel so lucky to have been able to give this Christmas present to myself, to Mac and to Mac’s many admirers … most especially to those at Colehaus Cats, without whose love and patience we would never have known the sweet softy living inside this jowly chunk of handsomeness. ❤️❤️❤️
YAY, for Carrie and for Mac! And what’s a sock monkey hat amongst friends, right? Hoping all vet test results on Mac are good ones!
We’re so happy for Mac!
Carol and Carrie, you are Mac’s Christmas angels. Well done!
Merry Christmas, Big Mac ! And a Happy New Life.
That is wonderful news. He is a cutie.
This has totally made our Christmas! What a lucky new family he has now!
Concats Mac!! A very merry Christmas indeed.
I think we all had a Big Mac attack reading that story with the most wonderful ending ever! You did it Mac, congrats!
Concatulations to Mac for getting a furrever home and coming inside where the living is grate!
This is a Christmas miracle. Mac evidently was domesticated at some point in his life and was more than eager to be a house cat again.
Bravo
Hugs madi and mom
He is a pretty boy and a lucky one.
I’m so happy for him.
That’s not easy to bring a feral cat inside. I have one who comes twice a day for food. But he wants nothing else, no physical contacts.
Douce soirée

You make such a difference in the lives of cats you cross paths with! So many people speak of what they want to do or how things should be – but do nothing (I admit I’m like this). Mac and Teese … wow. You gave them everything they deserve – both so special – and both now loved for a lifetime!
We are so, so happy to read about Mac! Most of us came from the city streets and we know what it’s like to find a Christmas miracle!!! Happy life, dear Mac and thank mew to everyone who donated to help this boy transition to being an indoor cat! What a great face too!!! Peace to all the Colehaus Crew!!!
