Today is Friday and if there could be a day named Nope Day, today would be it. Try as we may, we simply could not get Pia on board for being a part of this year’s Christmas e-card. She ran. She hid. She complained loudly. She looked at sister Tessa sideways and then ripped up an old piece of rug. Count yourself lucky, Tessa.
Later, after other more receptive kitties participated in Mom’s silly Christmas-themed photo shoot, we sat upstairs with Pia and had a chat. She’s not in the least interested in this year’s holiday anything, it would seem. And after some thought, maybe she’s on to something.
It’s been a rough year for everyone, on many different planes. Here, other than our ever-dwindling finances and Dad’s inability to find a job that pays more than minimum wage, Mom faithfully goes to work every day and faithfully puts her trust in close-working coworkers that they haven’t caught Covid-19, are hiding symptoms, and/or are too afraid to notify her boss. She’s had three close calls going back to this past May. Now’s about the time she’s worried. Now is about two weeks after Thanksgiving and all those family get-togethers no one was supposed to have.
So Mom’s thinking of not putting up Christmas lights outside this year, the first time that’s happened since sometime late last century. Not because she’s not interested in this year’s holiday anything. It’s because if she catches the virus, Dad can’t take down the lights and they may have to stay up forever. We’re not going to say Mom has never poked fun at or complained about people leaving holiday decorations up until, say, July (truth be told, it’s the inflatable Grinches still standing guard around our neighborhood in August that make her sad); she’s just mortified that our house might become one of those houses.
We think Mom just needs to think about it some more. Maybe she’ll be one of those people who wait to string lights on Christmas eve. Or is that put up a Christmas tree on Christmas eve? We’re definitely not putting up a tree, otherwise known as a big scratching post around here. And, well, Tessa.

Pia may not be a joiner, but golly, she is a beauty!
We are grateful that I work from home, and don’t see anyone other than The Hubby for weeks at a time, except for the few people that I wave to when out walking the ‘hood.
Continued hope for a change in your circumstances, and am still sending purrs to you.

N like sew…wearz R commint cyber space ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our decorations aren’t up here yet either. I’m waiting.
We didn’t even get the tree up yet, after losing another cat, we can’t get in the mood. Maybe you could string lights lower so they can be easily removed.
We hope you remain safe and virus free, that’s all the Christmas lights you really need.
Pia, we don’t blame you for not wanting to participate in the Christmas card. After last year when the mom forced us to wear a stupid Santa hat, we refused too. She had to use old pics of us.
there is always next year.
I understand your concerns but I also think this is a year we need Christmas more than ever.
You should cooperate, Pia, you have such a lovely face.
I am sending good thoughts that you stay safe from the virus.
Pia, we feel you, but everybuddy needs a lot of holiday cheer this year. We think it would be okay to put the lights up and leave them. Heck, you don’t have to turn them in July. 😉
Mum just put some lights in the inside of the windows .
We are keeping things simple this year too.
We say decorate as much as makes you happy.
I purr that things will get better for you all in the coming year <3
Merry Christmas
Purrs, Julie
I never put up a Christmas tree. I live in an apartment and don’t want to have to store the tree and/or the ornaments. Might consider just a wreath on the door or put up your tree with cat toys on it. Cats are happy and they’ll undecorate the tree for you!
We haven’t put up lights or a tree in years. I think that your Mom should take a break this year and we can all look forward to better times in 2021.
