Weary Pia sleeps in late today. We had a lot of treat-n-treaters knock on our door last night, despite all the lights being off and an overall look of no one being home. So many neighbors had decorations and lights and signs and Halloween-type sounds, you’d think everyone would gravitate to those houses. Maybe it’s a new trend to go to the one house that’s dark and therefore, “spooky” and maybe it should also include “disappointment.” Sorry kids, no candy here.
Years ago, Mom learned a work day following Halloween is a perfect time to take a vacation day, especially if one has a few hours of vacation time to take. Coworkers are usually crankier than usual the day after Halloween, having stayed up too late taking their trick-n-treaters out and about, not to mention that sugar high followed by the enviable sugar low that, sometimes, goes on and on for days.
Mom saved her vacation day for just this day and she’s taking it in order to get a jump on painting the living room ceiling this weekend, the final last step of that big 2022 shower leak incident. If you recall, the ceiling drywall repair was completed a few months ago and Mom’s been fixing rough spots here and there. Our wallet can finally afford paint and it’s time.
This photo shows the unevenness of the drywall that Mom’s been working on and soon, it should look smooth and perfect. She’s already painted primer and sealer (Kilz) and as you might expect, can hardly stand waiting for it to be complete and that whole damage chapter to be over. She promises to take her time, to paint it in phases so her arm won’t feel like it’s falling off, and Quint promises to stay off the ladder, mostly.

Hope the painting went well.
I know your mom will be so relieved to get the ceiling finished and be able to put the shower leak behind her. Quint looks like he wants to help!
We have battened down the hatches for the storm which is arriving through the night. Gusting wind of 90-100mph is forecast and already reached the Cornish coast so will soon be here.
Snooze on, Pia! Sorry those trick-or-treaters didn’t get the memo about not going to the no-porch light on and drawn curtain houses.
We hope the painting went well. Mom Cole will be so glad to have that done, we bet. And good snoopervising, Quint. 🙂
XO
