Just as we said it would, Pia’s fur is growing back just in time for cooler weather. See, Pia? We told you this would happen. Now, if we’d only get some cooler weather, all would align correctly and Mom wouldn’t be tempted to fish out those clippers again.
Nine year old Viola spent a long time up on the kitchen counter earlier watching something out the window. The neighbors, perhaps? Birds? Our annual fall katydid visit? Nope.
It’s just Tippy, a sometimes visiting neighborhood cat passing through. We don’t know who Tippy belongs to; no one nearby will ‘fess up. He looks healthy, though a little bit thinner than he was in spring. He’ll find food here everyday during daytime hours in our feral feeding stations, and warmth in the newly refreshed straw-filled feral shelters with their brand new outdoor warming mats in our backyard. We use the K&H Pet heated extreme weather outdoor kitty pad and put one inside each of our two feral shelters. The old mats were about ten years old and one actually had a very small hole worn through the tough plastic to the heating element. That could have been scary!
And sometimes, Tippy will find catnip chicken treats. He still won’t let Mom get closer than four feet away, but he knows if we have any, he’ll always be left a tasty treat.
Mom, what is this chicken catnip treat thing you’re talking about? And if some outside black cat is getting some, shouldn’t pretty inside black cats get some, too?
Sorry, Olivia. We only have enough for outside kitties who probably don’t ever get any treats. You get brushies, though, and toys, and your own blankets and love and scritches. Oh, the list goes on and on. Need we say more?
Yeah, well, you left out those treats.
Yes we did. Very perceptive, little girl.

Viola, do you have a crush on Tippy?
Pia, our temps dropped 30 degrees, and then another 20.
They bounced up some after a few days, but never up as high.
Best to keep your fur!
Tippy is so sweet! Olivia, your peeps are wonderful to look after less fortunate kitties!
That is kind of you to have food and warm spots for the strays and ferals. XO
Colehaus is most definitely a special place. Thank you for caring for those who are passing through your backyard!
