For today’s round of Facts or Fibs, we’re listing five statements about Colehaus and the Colehaus Cats that may or may not be true. Three are absolute truths and two are wild statements without a shred of honesty whatsoever. Think you know Colehaus and these Colehaus Cats? Let’s see.
- While cleaning out a closet, Mom found an envelope that once held catnip toys. Thinking the cats might enjoy sniffing the envelope, Tessa commandeered it and wouldn’t let anyone near for over an hour.
2. Like most cats, Pia loves combing and brushies. In fact, she begs Dad to give her brushies so much, he tells her she’ll go bald from getting them so often.
3. Viola has learned the command “Chin Up” means she’ll get brushies under her chin if she raises her head.
4. Those last near 100 degree days might have been too much for Quint and his love of sleeping under heavy fleece blankets he makes into personal forts. He’s found a new airy spot on the cat room tower for napping his afternoons away.
5. Since August 21st, a single white dove with tan spots has hung out every day in the backyard of Colehaus. Mom doesn’t know what to think of this, but calls it Pretty Bird whenever she’s out there, to which the dove flies away only to return the following day. Last week, while Mom was working outside, a blue marble fell from the sky and landed with a “plink” sound right next to her. Looking up, she saw a crow flying overhead.
So, how do you think you did?
Numbers 2 and 4 are fibs. If brushings and combing never existed, Pia would be a much happier cat. We don’t know why she doesn’t like either – she loves petting, she just never liked brushies, even as a kitten.
As we all know, Quint loves his fleecy blanket forts and we seriously don’t think he’s ever going to give those up. He was sitting on this tower only because the vacuum cleaner was out.
Numbers 1, 3, and 5 are true! Tessa OWNED that envelope for over an hour and no one could get her to give it up, and by then, all the good smells had disappeared. Maybe Tessa absorbed them all?
Viola learned Chin Up last year and has faithfully performed it every brushie day; also known as every day and don’t you forget it, Dad.
The white and tan dove still visits. It now has a regular beige mourning dove buddy who may have helped it learn how to peck for bird food under the feeder. The white dove might have a leg band but no one can get close enough, even with binoculars to tell for certain. And yes, someone lost their marble! A marble dropped from the sky, perhaps by an overhead crow, mere inches away from Mom. We’ve heard that crows like shiny things And here’s the marble:
You’ll have to trust us when we say we do not keep marbles in our backyard. This is the only marble we’ve ever had. Thank you, crow!

Dearest Carole and Steve,
That was fun reading this! Had my doubts about the going bold from brushies so that was true.
The Chin up from Viola is very special and sweet!
And that marble is remarkable…
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties
I knew #2 was false, but #4 I was sure was true! Hahahaha!
Someone lost a marble, or maybe the Gods wanted to give you a gift to put a smile on your face.
It’s a beautiful cobalt color, no?
I knew Pia didn’t like brushing, but I thought all the rest were false. How cool that they dropped a marble. My niece has a clutzy hawk in her neighborhood that has dropped a mouse and a snake.
I got 2 fib right and 5 the dove and marble true but that was it.
Wow, we guessed correctly! 🙂
That’s really cool about the marble. Thank you, crow friend!
Most of my cats are not big on being brushed, although we have a couple which would probably let you pet them until the fur came off.
What a fascinating story about the marble!
