We choose not to get into politics here, or in outside life for the most part. We’ve lost friends and family to division and Mom is feeling sad that she may have lost another. And for what? Nothing important, really.
During a phone call, when asked about last weekend’s U.S. Labor Day holiday, Mom mentioned in passing she didn’t barbeque last weekend because 1) we don’t want to own a grill, and 2) she had to work.
Mom was told to “get over” having to work Labor Day weekend, that “that’s what you signed up for when you decided not to go to college to get a real job.”
Ouch.
Not everyone has an opportunity to go to college. At age 15, Mom helped support her family by working her first job in retail, and continued doing so into adulthood. Dad was sent to computer trade school in another state for one semester before discovering a family member had stolen his entire college fund. He was then forbidden to return home, his family siding with the thief.
So, Mr. High and Mighty on the phone, glad to hear you had a great holiday weekend grilling this and that, and have a wonderful life. That’s not sarcasm. We’re really happy for you. But nope, we’re not going to get into this. And with that, we’ll leave you with family photos of our girl Tessa and boy Quint who’s both had just about enough of you and your smugness.

What a nasty thing to say! You can do without friends like that. No wonder Tessa and Quint are looking annoyed.
So sorry that you had such a insensitive caller. Hope you hung up.
That was no friend. That same person would probably criticize the president forgiving student loan debts too.
That was an insensitive comment to make.
People can be so thoughtless…I’m so sorry you had to endure that. That photo of Quint however sums it up nicely. Hugs…
That is someone I would not want as a friend. XO
College or not it is what you can do with your life that is important. Besides, neither Tessa nor Quint have college credits but their resumes are impecable !
Wow…what a horrible thing to say to someone!
Oh my gosh, what a horrible thing to say. That “friend” must be miserable to say something like that. We’re sorry that Mom Cole had to experience that.
