Well, that was different. Last night, me and Mom and everyone else here usually spends hours in a fort under Mom and Dad’s bed, hiding from the big booming flashy explosions outside. Mom says we’re supposed to pay attention to her reading out loud and getting treats and burrowing under blankets to take our minds off all the noise. But none of that happened! What the fluff???
Mom and Dad are wildly happy that finally, the town we live in banned both the sale and the lighting of fireworks because the lack of rain (and last week’s all time record high temperature of 117 degrees – YeeOWW!) has made things incredibly dry. Of course, the city officials didn’t ban the sale of the fireworks until a day or so after the fireworks were already on sale, so there were still those people who spent thousands of dollars to blow that money up, even though they weren’t supposed to do just that.
The point is, there wasn’t hours and hours and hours upon hours and days leading up to yesterday of explosions right outside our windows. Sure, there were a couple of loud bangs, because there will always be those neighbors who think they are more special than anyone else. Personally, we thought the quickly visiting flashing red and blue police car lights were much prettier, and so much more quiet! Mom says it was a nice change to not be forced to stay awake all night through all the noise. She’s pretty sure we all got the best 4th of July sleep ever!
Sleep?? Who got any sleep?

Here’s a look at our 4th of July under-the-bed fort Mom usually makes.
Glad you got a break this year. My state banned them years ago, but people go to the next state to buy them and no one seems to stop people from setting them off.
It was a war zone here last night, and the night before, and probably tonight too.
Thankfully, none of the Eastside Cats seemed too bothered, but it made my nerves jump.
I am glad you all got a good night’s sleep.
That is wonderful news, I’m glad you had a relatively quiet night. We have had a ban on fireworks for 30+ years and it doesn’t stop anyone unfortunately.
Well, that’s really terrific, it sure wasn’t quiet around here!
I wish fireworks were banned where I live. Some of them made the floor vibrate and today is the day everyone is tired and sleepy all day from not getting enough sleep. I suspect more will be shot off tonight.
It was horrible here, just like it is every year. AND… our stupid neighbors had a fire pit. Open fires are illegal here because the houses are so close.
How lucky for you that there were no fireworks. It sounded like a war zone here last night. We kept the windows closed so the noise wasn’t too bad.
That was awesome that you guys weren’t overwhelmed with fireworks. It wasn’t too bad here either – although it’s illegal, lots of people ignore the law.
That’s so great! We are glad you had a break from all the boomies. It sounded like a war zone for for about 6 hours here. They are illegal, but like you said, some people think they are more special than others. sigh.
