Quint continues to return to his normal self, including litter box deposits. What hasn’t returned is Mom’s tenacity to give him kibble as a daily morning snack. No one wants to go through that all over again, if his love of kibble is what caused his twinge of pancreatitis. No matter how much he begs for just one kibble bite, Mom pats him on his head, scritches his mismatched ears, calls him a good boy, and goes about her business, sans kibble in hand.
Furthermore, Dad adjusted Pia’s SureFlap feeder so Quint can’t horn in as easily as he had been while she eats her kibble, to steal some. Of course, it would be so much easier if one certain ginger princess would simply decide wet canned food was the cat’s meow. Then, EVERYONE would be off kibble!
Ewww! Why would I ever want to eat that canned food slop?

Our house is in disarray at the moment. No new news there. We’re on day 80 of upstairs shower leak #1 and day 25 of shower leak #2. When leak #1 spilled over into our carpeted spare bedroom, we moved everything from that room to the Cat Den and moved the litter boxes and everyone’s SureFlap personal feeders to the loft area. The Cat Den is filled to the gills and the door is kept closed at all times, as is that spare bedroom that still has most of the carpet and padding waiting to be removed. The wet plywood subfloor and baseboard in there are finally dry.
Additionally, the door to shower #1 is kept closed since it’s not much more than bare studs and plywood with the additional opening to the backside of shower #2, and closed off so some cat can’t slip his or her way through the opening and down into the one-foot high, sixteen-inch width space between the insulation and floor joists that run the entire length of our house.
To prevent additional trauma from workers soon to be coming (maybe) in and out of that area, we moved a litter box out of our room into the loft area with the others.
Thinking we were clever and all that, Viola apparently had enough and started peeing downstairs on the kitchen floor. In plain view and while we were watching.
So, we have another litter box downstairs now, something we’ve avoided having for the last twenty-two years we’ve lived here. We’ve always kept all cat-related things upstairs, and all our cats have loved that.
There’s always gotta be someone different.
And, it’s possible Olivia has promoted herself to Stairs Monitor and wouldn’t let Viola come up to use the litter boxes. Viola prefers to mostly live downstairs. With litter boxes upstairs, and someone keeping guard at the top of the stairs, Viola gave us her opinion on the matter.
We’ve basically gone from a three bedroom, one loft house to a one bedroom, one loft house. The good news is at the end of next week, shower leak #2 gets fixed and no damage occurred with that leak. The bad news is, with hyper inflation, the estimate for shower leak #1’s damage has gone from 12K to 18K over the last three months. And they can’t start work until August.
We have savings that will pay for this. It doesn’t leave much left over and Mom’s worried sick over it. What if this happens? What if that happens? But what are you going to do? Fix it and move on, that’s what.
We need to channel Tessa’s take on all this.
With our chins up, and sporting squinty, skeptical eyes, we’re determined to get through this. Just like Tessa does every day that she’s not worshipped as the BEST CAT on the planet.
Thanks, Tessa, for your perspective.

Hoping that this ‘project’ begins to clear up, and that the plumber had cancellations so he can arrive sooner.
I never noticed the white tip on the back of Quint’s ear before. I hope the work soon takes place so you can get back to normal.
Continuing to send you all best wishes that this nightmare is over soon! (Mudpie thinks canned food is slop too!)
At least Viola did it in front of you instead of leaving a surprise for you to find. Yikes on the increased estimate.
Ugh. We are sorry all this upset keeps right on happening, We, too, hope that somehow, someway, the repairs can get done sooner. Hugs and gentle purrs.
Hope you can get it all fixed!
OMC! It just never seems to end. Hope the repairs can be done sooner than later.
