I’m sleeping, Mom. How about we use this as an entire update? Quint is sleeping. I like it!
Not going to happen, sweet boy. C’mon now, people want to know how you’re doing. Up and at ’em.
Okay, fine. I’m up and here’s how I’m doing. I WAS sleeping and now I’m not.
That’s not what we meant, Quint. And you know it.
Okay, so here it is. I am doing much, much better after I stopped pooping last month and had to spend a day and a half at the vet place with all kinds of smells and sounds of puppers. I didn’t like it, nor did I like having to poop for the vet people there. Apparently, they really needed to steal my poop and I thought it should be mine, all mine. While I was there, I got really hungry and ate the canned food they gave me and my Mom got it into her head that I should eat nothing but canned food now.
I’m a kibble boy. Always was a kibble boy, always will be a kibble boy. The vet people say I have to eat canned food but I can have a special kind of kibble on the side if I insist, which I do, called Fiber Response. It’s really tasty and if someone named Mom would let me, I’d eat nothing but that. In fact, if she’d let me eat nothing but that, I’d poop for her all she wanted, too. How’s that for showing love?
I’ve tried to demand nothing but those tasty fiber kibbles, getting all up in Mom’s face and being gruff. “Mom, you’re going to starve me here. I don’t like any of those ten different kinds of canned food you keep pawning off on me. Sure, I might *seem* that I might eat them when you sprinkle the tops with that secret spice FortiFlora, but I’m just licking that stuff off. Is that the point? Well, here’s the point: I’m not eating that canned food. Give me those tasty fiber kibbles! Now!”
That’s what I say in my head. But honestly, I’ve never been a gruff kind of boy. Every time I think I want to get tough with Mom, it comes out sounding like, “Mmmrrrrrf, mmmrrrff, *purr purr purr* Mmmrrrf.” Not quite the tone I’d intended to set. And twelve hours later, a nice clean dish is brought in with fresh canned food on one side (Oh look. Pate this time. *turns up nose*) and yes! A bit of tasty fiber kibble on the other. One guess: Which one do you think I scarfed down immediately? And which one did I lick the secret spice off of and ignore the rest?
Quint, you know we’re not going to budge on getting you to eat canned food. The vet said, everyone says, wet food is better for you and better for your poops, too.
Better for my poop? Seriously? Do you know how crazy that sounds? I’m going back to bed.
We’re still working on getting Quint transitioned over to wet food. Our vet and everything we’ve read about switching from dry to wet food says acceptance can take anywhere from days to six months. We’re not freaking out over his lack of interest. Some days, he picks at his food much more than other days, and some days, we give him a bit more Fiber Response to build his daily calorie count. He also gets a couple syringe-fulls of a quarter teaspoon of Miralax dissolved in water twice a day, per vet orders, and probably will continue so for life.
We’ve tried mixing his wet food with goat’s milk (nope) and with turkey baby food (nope) and gravy products (nope), and if it ever comes to it, we’ll force feed him. We’re a long, long ways from that. Sorry, we’re not going to go the Raw Diet with him. He no longer likes the Iams Pro Health he used to eat exclusively, and that’s good. We’ll keep working with him to accept the canned Wellness food, sprinkled and mixed with FortiFlora here and there.
There are several web sites that talk about transitioning kibble eaters to wet food. We like this one from The Cat Site.
Other than this one thing, not liking the switch to wet food, Quint is doing really well. We’ll check in again with him next month to see what he thinks of his food then.

Yes Quint, that transition isn’t easy, it took us months but we finally made it. I’m glad you are doing well overall pal.
Benny used to be a hard core dry addict, and it took me several YEARS to transition him. Now that he’s elderly, I’m sure glad I did. Keep at it.
We’re glad you’re doing better! We love wet food.
The Florida Furkids
Oh, Quint, you and I are so much alike! The vet stole my poop, too, because I wouldn’t eat wet food. I still don’t like it, but I get Mommy to give me dry food sometimes. We’re looking up the food you eat.
Oh, so glad to hear Quint is doing better. My kitties love the kibble too but will eat wet food too in addition. In fact, Angel Mika never ate canned food in her life and lived to be 17 1/2. Go figure.
Quint, I am glad you decided to tell us hw you are doing. I never forget about you so I wanted to know good news. Looks like you have good news for us. PLEASE keep trying to get used to the wet.
Quint my furiend, why don’t you like wet food? I never met a food I DIDN’T like! Mom gives me wet in the morning and wet at night and dry inbetween……you are a fussy guy Quint! You should eat that wet food, it’s good for ya! Love, Cody
Quint…I hear you good buddy. I have similar issues. My Vet wanted me to eat pumpkin.>>>>>>>>>I told everyone in no uncertain terms…I don’t eat orange food. So now I get 1/8 tsp of Miralax 2 times a day on my canned food (which I love). I also love my kibble. Has your Mom tried Purina Beyond canned (pate) yet? I adore the chicken and sweet potato (it is mixed in can’t see the orange)
there is a salmon I love. Beyond is grain free.
Hugs and kitty kisses Madi your bfff
dood…..think oh de canned goodz az…..pizza pie…donuts…..meatloavez…sghetti….friez…..a ham samich and trout soup…that mite werk…..buzzed happee yur doing better tho; N heerz hopin
ya STAY that way ~ 🙂 ♥♥
Quint, you have to eat wet food. It’s the best way for you.
Hisia is a real pain in the …. when it comes to eat. I want her to eat mostly wet food but something can be good one day and absolutely not edible the day after. I add water in her food or/and yeast (levure de bière). Sometime it helps.
And she does not like “patées”. She likes to chew her food.
Sometime it’s just about texture.
Bonne soirée
Natacha
I’m glad you’re doing better, Quint! But sorry, I think raw and canned food is awesome! Yum. Now I’m hungry!
Glad you’re feeling better, buddy, but you need a household of trainers like the ones here–if you don’t eat it, they will, and everyone catches on in a day or two and follows the plan. Not that Giuseppe doesn’t rip into the bags and let us have some cheep stuf now and then that our human gets for those cats who live outdoors, but that’s more fun because we stole it. We’ll take our canned and raw any day. Hope you get there, most of all so your mom doesn’t have to worry any more.
I’m glad you’re feeling better. You should really eat your wet food because it’s good for you. If you don’t want to eat it, my cat Jake says he will volunteer to eat it for you. 😉
We’re glad you’re feeling better, Quint ! Transition may not be fun, but we agree with Summer : raw food and / or good quality canned food are the best for you (and your poop) ! Purrs
we are glad he is feeling better
Quint, we all want you to have glorious poops, because you are glorious! Grated Parmesan cheese helped us transition Angel to wet food, ’cause it smells yeasty like kibble. Not ideal, but it worked after we tried everything else, and we lessened the sprinkled amount as time went by.
That is a delightful idea about Parmesan cheese! And we’ll give it a try this evening! Thank you!
So glad to hear you’re doing well. We hope a complete transition happens soon, for everyone’s sake.
We’re glad to hear you’re doing better, Quint. All of us eat wet food…most of the time. But sometimes the mom lets us have a little kibble as a treat. Yeah…she can’t get the kibble away from us completely either.
Good boy! So the Human says that a couple times over the years (before I was tutored I was real skinny and that tutoring didn’t happen till I was 8-1/2), she’d have trouble getting me to eat. One of the things that often worked was Royal Canin (wet, canned) Kitten Food. It’s prolly too many calories to be a growed-up kitty’s only food, but she might give it a try if you really are stubborn about the wet fudz. They’re tasty once you get used to them. And this stuff was pretty nommy.
Quint, you are SO adorable! Thank you for the update. You and Mudpie make a great pair…she feels the same way about her kibble and barely tolerates the wet food I get her to try every now and then.
Great news you are doing well, Quint!
I am glad you are doing well Quint. II hope he decided he likes some canned foods.
Quint, our mom tries to convince both of us to eat canned food at night ‘cuz the vet wants us to lose weight. We don’t like most of the wet foods so we tend to complain. Mom keeps trying to find good flavors. Tonight we had turkey with cheese and gravy. Steinbeck ate like crazy! Why do humans spend so much time trying to figure out what we should eat? Shouldn’t they figure out what they should eat??? Just asking. MOL!!! By the way, you are looking awesome and we’re all so glad you’re feeling better!
Stereo purrs………..Hemingway and Steinbeck
Wet food are pawsome dude, seriously give it a try!
Sounds like you’re hanging in there, trooper! I must admit that you are uber-adorable, Quint. There have been a couple times I needed to switch Bear to wet food for a little while – and as much as he makes a stink to get a wet food treat – when all he has is wet food, he throws a fit for kibble!
I am glad you are doing well, Quint. You have to persevere with that wet food so you don’t have to go back to the vet.
Quint keep us posted with your transition to wet food okay? Buster had to do that too, but the vet gave us a little medicated kibble to keep him from destroying the entire house.
Quint, we are glad to hear you are doing so much better. We are purring and praying that your transition over to canned food happens sooner than later. Much love to you and your family, sweet boy.
Keep us posted, dear Quint.
