The update on Quint is he’s doing better. Not one hundred percent better, but better than before we took him in to the emergency vet a week ago.
After chowing down on a full can of wet food at the emergency vet, then scarfing another half can back at home, Quint has decided wet food is for sick cats and he’s not sick. He wants kibble, something we’re trying to get him off of. He’s still getting wet, canned food twice a day every day in his own SureFlap microchip feeder but he’s mostly ignoring it. We did catch him this morning horning in on Tessa eating from another feeder that’s kibble only.
We’ve also discovered he will lick his wet food if it’s sprinkled with FortiFlora, something we definitely don’t want to get him addicted to but he does need to eat something. Wellness does make kibble and we’re giving a few bits of that as treats. It’s a carefully monitored battle of wills right now.
And his pooping could, most certainly, be better. He’s on Miralax and Lactulose, both designed to help with constipation. So, where’s the poop? It’s a mystery, one we hope our regular vet will solve sometime today because Quint’s not telling.

Another check in on our check in:
Over the weekend, Quint started eating his wet, canned food like a good boy. Saturday, Dad saw Quint poop in a litter box. Ditto everything on Sunday. While we’re not yet claiming victory, Mom’s feeling pretty full of herself for having the stronger will and loads of patience and persistence.

Eat your wet food Quint, it’s good for you.
Quint’s pooping…good news! When we switched from kibble to wet food, Angel would have nothing to do with it. That is, until I read on a internet site that grated Parmesan cheese smells like kibble to cats, and I bought a can of the vile stuff and voila! Angel started eating wet food, because it smelled like kibble! We sprinkled less and less over time, and since then, have discovered that nutritional yeast does the same trick, but it’s not cheese and salt. I keep some yeast around all of the time, to sprinkle as a treat when I feel some kitty isn’t eating enough. 9 outta 10 times, it works!
I was going to suggest the sprinkle cheese and nutritional yeast. For diabetic cats hooked on dry food we can’t use cheese, but the yeast works for them and it’s actually good for them in many ways, including lovely furs.
Well done Mom and well done Quint!! Hoping he is back to himself soon!
Oh Quint, both of your sweet arms were shaved for IV’s. But they did you good.
Please be all better little man.
I’m so glad to hear Quint is doing better (and pooping!).
Oh Quint, buddy, we are so sorry you and your pawrents are going through this. Especially you, with your sweet and gentle nature. I’ve been through this, though not nearly so bad as you. It’s why we had to switch to strictly canned food. Mom monitors us both carefully for all output issues. And keeps her Laxatone ready. – Toby
happy to hear that Quint is doing better – i always hate when it comes down to a battle of wills–cats are experts in that department!
Keep up the good pooping Quint.
We’re glad you’re eating your wet food and beginning to poop more regularly again, Quint. Purrs
We hope Quint continues to eat his wet food and is on the road to recovery now.
Quint, please get better soon.
What is fortiflora? Tough to get Buster eat his wet food too.
FortiFlora is a granular powder made by Purina that comes in a box of 30 packets to sprinkle over wet food. Some people say all it is is the factory crumbs from the Purina cat food. Purina calls it Feline Probiotic Supplement. It contains Animal digest, brewers dried yeast, taurine, Vitamins C and E, and some lesser stuff. Sunny is in LOVE with the stuff and expects it sprinkled over her wet food daily. Purina says one packet daily but we get four or five sprinkles out of each one. Amazon sells it for about thirty bucks, chewy.com is about the same price.
Glad you’re starting to do better Quint!
Sounds like things are moving right along! (Is that a bad pun?) We need to conk Mudpie and Quinn’s heads together to get them to eat wet food!
“Poos! He did poos! What kind of cat does poos? A good cat, a nice cat, a cat that likes to poo. A handsome cat, a healthy cat, a cat with lots of things to do. He poos. Yes, he poos. He’s the cat who loves to POO!”
See, Quint, I promised I’d sing you The Poo Song once you poo’ed.
MOL! The BEST song ever created and sung!
Quint, you gotta eat and you gotta poop. Food in, poop out.
Keep up the good work with pooping Quint!
Cat Scout Charles
Way to go, Quint! We are very proud of you!
The joys of loving a stubborn cat! After Bear’s last dental, he wasn’t supposed to have dry food. He turned his nose up at the ten varieties of wet food I put before him – and kept looking at where his kibble bowl usually is. I finally gave up and put it down – but as you can imagine, it didn’t go well. He kept spitting out kibble with bits of blood. He finally figured it out and ate the wet food. I swear … I love him to no end … but sometimes …
That is great news that Quint is doing better and pooping.
Yay, Quint! We’re so glad things are moving along — finally!
