We don’t get snow often in the Pacific Northwest and when we do, it’s exciting, sometimes scary, and always pretty. Flakes started teasing us around 10 a.m. and started finally sticking just after dark.
Every time we thought maybe it had stopped, we only had to look out at our neighbor’s house. Nope, still going.
And in the morning, this is what greeted us.
The Feral Shelters are both under the back deck this winter and both have warming mats inside. One of the neighbor cats resides in one almost every day/night and the other sometimes houses his sister or a smaller, quiet raccoon that visits occasionally.
Though we don’t feed the raccoons anymore, our yard remains a thoroughfare from the fields, greenspace and creek to the rest of the neighborhood where all those outside cat and dog food bowls are waiting for the masked bandits to sneak a bite or two. We didn’t see any when we put the feral food out in the feeding stations at dawn. The prints had iced over meaning those pudgy raccoons were already long gone.
Lastly, we’ve developed the habit of leaving some Christmas lights up, only white or blue ones, after the holidays in the off chance we might get snow. We think LED lights look so pretty against the white and some of our neighbors agree, though most of them don’t leave theirs up long after New Year’s Day. Notice we said most. Yeah, still looking and shaking our heads at that somewhat saggy, 8-foot tall Scooby Doo that inflates up the street every evening around 6, because what says “Happy February 6th!” better than that?
Inside, apparently, the only ones excited about the snow were us. Who could be bothered by some puffy white stuff falling from the sky when a nap on a puffy comforter under a fleecy blue blanket is clearly, time much better spent?

I can see that snow could be a novelty, but not here in Michigan! I am SO READY for spring, and it’s not even a week into February yet. *sigh* Quint looks so very peaceful while napping; is his artistic mojo ready to fire up again?
That’s a lot of snow for you, it would be for us too. I’d be snow napping too!
Beautiful! TW always wonders why I don’t run to the window every time it snows. Apparently the cats before me did.
There’s a site called Let’s Encrypt which offers free SSL and seems safe. It was mentioned in the WIRE article I shared.
We looked at Let’s Encrypt and prepared ourselves with the info there to take to our hosting service in case they continued to give us grief about not providing anything without charge. And apparently, our hosting service gave us a free SSL sometime last month! Now to make sure it actually works and to update all our links. Thank you!
Very pretty! Stay warm and snuggly sweetie.

Very pretty photos. I am with you Quint, I prefer to be indoors 🙂
We love the look of any Christmas lights in the snow, especially the old big bulbs.
Definitely a duvet day for the cats then? We had snow in 2011 it was ‘snowmageddon’ Dash was out for two minutes and hated it. I love thought snow light though.
We don’t often get snow either. The fountain looks beautiful decorated with it.

What a pretty snowfall! Thank you so much for taking care of the ferals.
The snow is fun all right. like the idea of the Christmas lights!
It’s been rainy down here in Los Angeles! So my human and I go to New York for the Meet the Breeds event… and it’s raining here too. Some snow would be novel!
MOL – we still has a few neighbors wif Christmas wreaths up.
Snow is pretty. We don’t get much here in Florida but when I lived in NC, I usually got some every winter. Quint, you look totally comfy and zoned out.
When you only get that little bit snow is nice. We have gotten too much snow in a short time to make it be pretty.
As snow is unusual for you, we understand your enthousiasm, it’s very pretty indeed ! But we would rather stay under the warm blanket though… Purrs
Definitely worth it to see that fountain in snow! Hope you can get around safely.
We hope you all enjoyed the snow, but also that you dont get too much of it. It gets tiresome fast when ya wanna go outside. MOL!
I hope you get to enjoy the snow.
Looking at your pictures makes me feel cold! Then again, I know it’s worse when it’s too cold to snow. The snow does make everything slightly more beautiful (except the outdoor cats).
Wow, you guys have more snow than us in the Northeast this year. We love your snow lights. So pretty! We think Quint has the right idea. Snow outside? Nap inside!
2 or 3 inches is nothing to us…but we’re in the Midwest. We can see why this would a lot for you. 🙂
O Boy o Boy O Boy, we love snow days. AND we like the Christmas lights our human ALSO leaves up! She is convinced it makes her place more cozy to have those lights on during cold snowy days!
