We’re allowing Quint to spread his wings, er, paws a bit and embrace his inner creativity. You can see the first part of our experiment here.
With his ongoing habit of pawing at surfaces (and finally weening him off toothpaste flecks on bathroom mirrors) and with an idea and some Googling research, we found some non-toxic, child and pet-friendly water-based paint.
Uh huh. Oh, yes we did. And then we found some little canvases and a really big, high-sided box.
While Quint contemplated the world, sought inspiration and enjoyed a bit of autumn sunshine, we prepared his “studio.”
First, we painted the canvases in soft colors and let them dry completely. Then we watered down some paint, put the canvases and the paint palette in the big box and with a bowl of warm water and a fluffy dry towel handy, we introduced Quint to the spread.
This is where the little man tilted his head and put his paw on Mom’s arm as if to say, “Let me take it from here.”
Quint explains: I like this big box and I like how Mom and the Dad don’t mind me pawing stuff all over these square things. The paw is a perfect utensil, in my opinion. Scooping, batting, whapping, painting – all the important stuff easily accomplished. I don’t know how my people work with those digets they’ve got, though, I guess they’re good for petting. But not for painting!
When I paint, *pat, pat, swipe* I see splashes of color, leaves and birds, swirling, dipping, soaring across the space. *paw, paw* I think of quiet time sitting in the window, taking in fresh, breezey whiffs. I’m recreating that mood.
All inspiration flies out the window when Mom uses that flashy box thing and makes her kissy sounds. How’s an artist to work with that going on? No sir, I don’t like it and my Ears of Annoyance ought to let her know it! You’re bothering me, Mom! Go away!
A wee touch here, a last dab there…gots to make sure my prints are clear. What is it you call them? Toe Beans? My Dad calls them buttons. *dab, dab* There, that should do it. And…I’m spent. Treats and naps now?
Look for my results this Friday. (I KNOW! Who in their right mind wants to wait that long?!?!)
So awesome!! He looks so intent, just like a true artist. And ya, don’t mess with the creative juices by taking pictures. LOL
It’s kind of scary how serious he is while swiping at the canvases. So, so serious!
Wow Quint needs his own gallery soon. Pawsome. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
Thanks, Molly! He just might have to have a showing or something because we don’t have the wall space! LOL!
Quint I can tell your work is going to be hanging in the Metropolitan Museum of Art real soon!
They do have a Metropolitan Museum of Cat, don’t they? MOL!
Wow, Quint, you are a master painter! I am very impressed!
Thank you, Sparkle! I’m not sure about the master part, unless we’re talking master of purrs, but as long as nobody tells me I’m doing it wrong, I’ll keep trying to do it right!
Wow Quint, you’re quite the artist. Your mom could sell those pictures for a bazillion pounds/dollars
You hear that, Mom? the Dad better brush up on his best marketing skills. I need more canvases now! MOL!
Very impressive, Quint! You’re a regular Picatso!!
Picatso! I LOVE IT!
How beautiful!
Thank you, Connie! And thank you for visiting me!
That’s pawsome! We love what a temperamental artist you are. Did you let her clean your beautiful white paws afterward?
Thank you! Sure, Mom does a good job of cleaning my paw. She’s gentle with warm water and soap that way. I don’t mind too much. Plus, treats afterward!
Love your blog. How wonderful that they are all rescued cats.
Thanks for visiting us. Yep, every single one of them have been rescued, some from great foster homes, some almost from the very jaws of wandering coyotes, and a couple right off busy streets!
Wow! As an artist, he’s a natural! I’ve heard about cats painting, but never actually seen real evidence until now.
What a cutie pie!
Same here! We’d heard about it, never saw it. We feel very fortunate, not only because of his talent, but because he’s really a very, very good cat. All of the Colehaus Cats are, truth be told.
Can’t wait to see the finished work of art. Quint is very talented and is lucky to have such clever peeps!
I love the “tired” photograph and also the one where he has his ears on backwards (as we say in our family).
Heheh, we don’t know about being clever. We all know our cats are way more clever than we could ever be. We’re just thrilled we figured out some kind of outlet for his habit of pawing at the walls. We love the ears on backwards look, but, LOL, he doesn’t! Funny that…
Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting us:) See you again soon! purrrs xx

I know! Our Mom is just plain goofy sometimes! But what are you gonna do? MOL!
Are you going to auction that master piece? It should be worth a lot!
Mom is thinking about it. There’s been some talk of fundraising. I don’t get into that whole part. I just like to paint! Purrs…
Quint, you are so cute and I think it’s amazing that you paint! Several years ago Mama had a co-worker who gave her a big book that had different kitties’ paintings in it. You could be famous (if you aren’t already ).
I’ll have to get my Mom to find that book somehow to see if I’m doing it right. Thank you for visiting me! Purrs…
How cute! Our Julie might be good at this too. Thanks for visiting us! Its nce to meet you. It took us a little while to figure out how to get back to you from your comment. We hope we can remember how to do it!
