Update posted at 8:39 p.m. October 4, 2013
Fresh bedding warmed from the dryer. Second round in the wash right now. Erinn’s napping and four baby Niblets are nursing. All look robust and healthy. Is she done? Any more Niblets in here? It’s hard to tell just yet so we’ll just wait and update you all tomorrow. Thank you all for joining us for Erinn’s big event! Cigars and champagne for everyone!

We’re not seeing any further contractions out of Erinn or activity from her that suggests she still has more to go. She might be done and four might be it.

Baby Niblet Four born at 6:43 p.m. and is a ginger kitten! With a regular tail. Again, active and vigorously nursing. All four kittens look to be about the same size and thankfully, very actively seeking out nipples. Happy Birthday Baby Niblet four!

Update posted at 6:42 p.m. October 4, 2013
We swapped out some of her soiled bedding and started a load of laundry. So glad we had lots of towels ready for her!
Three baby Niblets are nursing well at the milk bar. Erinn is doing a great job accommodating everyone. One thing different from our birth experiences of the past is that Erinn doesn’t make a single sound at any time during the process, other than loud purring. There was speculation she had had kittens in the past and we’re more certain of that now. Such a good mama!
No more photos yet. Soon!

More additions to the last update:
Outside the bedroom, Miss Newton and Olivia stand watch at the French door. We know Miss Newton likes kittens. She helped raise Pia Bean when she first arrived here as a wee, little puffball. And Miss Newton was newly pregnant when she was captured by the humane society as a stray (she didn’t get to keep them). She knows what baby kitten sounds are.
As for Olivia, maybe she has a strong motherly instinct? We know she isn’t a fan of Erinn but maybe the way to Olivia’s heart is with baby Niblets!
No sign of Tessa, Pia or Quint… and knowing Quint and Tessa, they’re both napping. Nothing wakes them up.

Addition to the last update:
Ruby and Maxx, who both live in this bedroom with Erinn (remember, Erinn has a big, blocked off cage) know something is up. Ruby has the cutest look on her face, like she’s heard these baby sounds before. She’s ten years old and we don’t know anything about her past before Christmas of last year when we brought her here as the only cat at the shelter to participate in the Home for the Holidays shelter program (traditionally, just dogs get this). Did Ruby have kittens in her past? Maybe. We think maybe so.
On the other hand, Maxx is just as grumpy as usual. Probably was woken up from his evening beauty nap!

Third baby Niblet born at 6:20 p.m. A lighter gray fur (Tabby?) kitten, not as loud as the first gray tabby but just as active. And another bobtail! Found a nipple much faster than it’s two siblings. Happy Birthday, Niblet number three!

6 p.m. – Both kittens nursing vigorously. Looks like the dark gray one might be a tabby. We see stripes on the front legs. Erinn is purring loud and kneading. She looks very much like she knows what she’s doing.

Second kitten at 5:27 p.m. Dark gray fur, very active and loud. (Tortie? Tabby? Can’t tell yet.) And with a bobtail! It didn’t take long for this one to find a nipple…and the corner of the box and the other corner of the box and the third corner of the box, yowling all the while. This one’s a wanderer. No photo yet. Happy Birthday, second Niblet!

We’ve got a baby Niblet!!
While working elsewhere in the house, we heard a single high-pitched mew from the bedroom at 4:25 p.m. Can’t mistake that sound. We found Erinn Zuzu in one of the open cat carriers caring for a dark kitten, (black?), mostly dry and very active. It’s been latched onto a nipple ever since we discovered it. Good kitten! Erinn seemed pleased with herself and with us showering her with praise. She seems like a very good and attentive mother and doesn’t mind us sitting close by. But we’ll give her privacy. We’re calling the first birth at 4:10 p.m. Happy Birthday, first baby Niblet!
We’ll post more when we have more info!
Update: Second kitten at 5:27 p.m.

Way to go Erin x
Oh gosh… this brings back such memories for me when my Zoey had her kittens – helping her raise her babies was the most amazing experience ever (she gave birth to two kittens on my lap). We kept 3 of the 4 and the other is with a dear friend. Welcome to the world darling Nibllets and enjoy watching all the wonderful phases of the growing process! And you are such a good Mama, Erinn!
Happy birthday Niblits!
